Applications Open for Illinois Cemetery Relief Fund Grants

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is now accepting applications for the second year of its Cemetery Relief Fund Grant Program, which provides funding to help restore cemeteries that have been abandoned, neglected or are otherwise in need of additional care.

For Fiscal Year 2027, the program will offer 20 grants of up to $30,000 each, doubling the number of available grants from last year.

Eligible applicants include units of local government and not-for-profit organizations, including not-for-profit cemetery authorities. The funding is intended to help communities clean up, restore and maintain cemeteries that have fallen into disrepair.

To qualify, applicants must meet eligibility requirements under the Cemetery Oversight Act, register with the state’s Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA) Grantee Portal and satisfy other state and federal requirements.

Applications opened October 19 and must be submitted by December 1, 2026.

For more information about eligibility requirements and how to apply, visit the IDFPR Cemetery Relief Fund Grant Program website.
